Thread: Wind Mill Cylinder

    Wind Mill Cylinder

Anybody seen a cracked windmill cylinder, I'll try to get a picture of it from a friend, they are telling her that's why the electric pump under it is not pumping to the surface.

And get this... they pulled it all, discovered the cylinder was cracked and put it all back down the well that way.

I suppose the crack could be large enough to stop flow to the top. But putting it all back makes no sense at all!

Apparently she had two different well guys working on it and the left hand wasn't talking to the right hand... she has 4 horses and 8 dogs to keep watered, and she was out of water for 2 1/2 weeks. I haven't seen the cylinder yet, she was supposed to save it for me.

Wow, hope she found water somewhere for all those animals.

You going to post a picture if she gives it to you?

Yes, supposedly she saved it, so the well guys couldn't sell it as scrap brass... She's back in water, and they just had the windmill "fixed" within the last year. Husband is in Afghanistan, probably cost her an arm and a leg.

    OK, here's the cylinder.

    2-1/2" Midland.

The leathers looked like they were splined... but no splines inside of the cylinder, and it doesn't looked scratched up either, it holds water except for the crack, I assume that it is not worth the risk to braze up that crack, pulling the pipe and pump on the bottom of it is where the cost is. It's down about 300' from what I can tell from the pump rod. Electric pump hung under it, not sure how gravel would have gotten up to the leathers to tear them up like they were (I'll try to get a shot of them next time I am over there, I didn't have my camera the last time).

The Husband was home over the holidays and he's pretty much fed up with the windmill and now wants to put a solar pump down, I will try to talk him out of that since he has grid power to the well.

That crack tells just how thin the brass is. Not worth fixing.

I haven't been getting notifications for a month or so. We are pretty much settled in here in NC. I'll have to try and see why I am not getting notifications of posts.

    You moved?

BTW I'm still getting notices so the forum is not broke, but I bet you changed email and need to change it here somewhere...

We moved to North Carolina. Couldn't get together on a place in Florida and had to get out of all the traffic and building going on where we lived for 35 years. No traffic here and the building is almost nonexistent.

I'll check on the email thing. Something is definitely not right.
