We have a well (unsure about size and depth) with inline paper filter, softener system, and another inline carbon filter before it comes into the house. (in that order)
It stinks like rotten eggs (both cold and hot water worse), it tends to get a slimy feel to it if water sits for more than a couple days, and leaves reddish spots on clothes after washing.

and today the water softener salt reservoir filled up completely and overflowed...

what is wrong??!! the previous owner said they flushed the hot water heater about once a week.... and i read in previous messages that it is probably bacteria and to raise the temp, but ours doesn't have a thermostat (or at least we couldn't find it earlier)
