    Good water testing kit

What is a good and inexpensive home water testing kit?

What all should it test for?

    Cost?

    Thanks.

It all depends on what you want to test for Jim. The last one I bought will test PH, hardness and iron. Those are the three things I need to test the water in my area. A lot of folks have sulphur also but your nose makes a pretty good test kit for sulphur. And our air pump system takes it out no matter how high the sulphur content so the actual number of parts per million isn't that important.

The place I buy kits from is Hach. That's about all they deal with is test kits, meters etc. Their website is Hack.com.

Hach has a 5in1 Aquacheck strip product made for swiming pools but pretty good all around it tests for: Total Chlorine, Free Chlorine, Total Hardness, Total Alkalinity and pH.

In surface waters that will be used for drinking: Tannin, Nitrates, Nitrites, Sulfates and Bacteria are a must.
