    A Complicated Question Regarding a 2nd Cistern

I've got a complicated question regarding installing a 2nd cistern.

I have a very low producing well. It now pumps into a cistern. We pay attention
and keep the cistern full. There are times that we travel, or don't use our daily allotment.
I would like to add a 2nd cistern to collect those odd allotments and have no idea how to set up the new cistern.

Is there a way to do this?

It depends on how you want to use those additional allotments, if you plumb the cisterns together in Parallel, then you get additional storage, i.e. 2 1,000 gallon storage tanks (cistern) would give you 2,000 gallons of storage.

If you want a backup, plumb the over flow from the first tank to go into the second tank, then draw out of the second tank and add a valve that can access the first tank in case of emergencies.
