Air Volume Control Will Not Shut Off Well Pump

    http://www.grainger.com/product/U.S....mation&SG=NULL

Hi! This U.S. Guage Air Volume Control (see above link) will not shut off my father's Myers shallow non-submersible well pump unless the orifice of the U.S. Guage air volume control is plugged. Otherwise, the air pressure will never climb enough to trip the pressure switch (set at 40 PSI).

The U.S. Guage Air Volume Control is attached to a simple bladderless tank. In order to keep the pump from running continuously , I had to seal the orifice with a few wraps of duct tape around the control. What is the answer here? I need help! Thanks!

That air control is one I have never used. I'm not even sure how it works, but I believe when the float is in the up position, the shallow well jet pump will pull air from it somehow to add it to the tank. The barb fitting on the bottom is supposed to connect to a plastic tube which is connected at the other end to a suction port on the pump.

The air volume control you need looks like this:

By the way, air controls have nothing to do with the pumps ability to make pressure other than supplying air to the impeller which it doesn't like.

Thanks for the reply Speedbump! My plan is to seal the orifice of a spare U.S. Guage Air Volume Control with some J.D. Weld (so as to eliminate the duct tape). Failing that, I will purchase the control that you illustrated. Thanks for the tip!

The one in the picture will go where your US Gauge is now. You will need an 1-1/4" X 1/4" bushing to make it fit.

By the way, do you have a shallow well jet pump or a deep well jet?

If you need an AV-80, I can make you a heck of a deal on one. I have had half a dozen on my shelf for over 20 years.

Thanks for the tip speedbump! Can you provide the brand (model no.) or link to the air volume control that you previously mentioned? Thanks.

    It's a shallow well jet.
