    Challenger Pressure Tank

Hi have been getting bad smelling water and sometimes cold water comes out black for a few seconds. So today I checked the softener it was ok so got to the presure tank as its 13 years old now and it was full of water so put air to it to get the water out after all the presure was gone and got some really nasty smelling stuff out of it after filling and draing it about 6 times water was getting clear. and tonight water was not smelling anymore.Anyways should I replace the tank as it might be a health risk as it gives the house water from the well thanks for any help in this matter.

If the tank was full, it was waterlogged. This condition is very hard on a motor. If for no other reason, I would change it. If it's full of mineral inside, it won't get any better. If it's a bladder tank it is certainly bad if it was full of water and bladder tanks are not painted inside. So when the bladder ruptures, the water starts working on the bare metal.

yes its a blader tank 20 gal one water was coming out the valve stem wene I checked it also that is how I used the air pump to force the water out durring the filling and draining I told You about.. as i was filling and draining it water was rusty and smelled like a pool after it gets green from lack of chrorine was really bad took about six times of filling and then useing the air pump to remove the water to get that nasty water out but I know its not all out as there was still a rusty color to the water. But the water in the house is now not smelling bad but like you said its not painted so its going to come right back so guess will have to get a new tank will go to home depot and see what they have there don't want some cheap tank so i will look around for something good and replace it thanks for the help

If you really don't want to buy a cheap tank, why are you going to Home Depot?

Have you tried Pumps and tanks? I sell a very good tank. The H2Pro by Flexcon. The only problem is I am also in Florida so I have to charge sales tax. It may still save you some money and you will have a good quality tank with a 5 year warranty.

I'm not sure where Palm Bay is.

You will be much happier with the Flexcon tank. It is one of the best available. The tanks at the big box stores have ususlly cut a few corners. Looks the same, works and smells different.

well got new tank in and now getting black water from hot and cold usaly after long times of not useing the water. The old tank was full of some nasty stuff. think that rust and whatever else was forming in that old tank has got into pipes in house and might just have to wait tell its all flushed out.I have took all the strainers out from all the sinks and let water run for a few min but still gets black but only for a few seconds after turning on the water after not using it for some time .Must have coated the pipes with that black stuff and its taking its time coming out hope it goes away with out any more work.
