Thread: Pump kicking on

    Pump kicking on

    My pump has been turning on about every 5-10 min. I have a bladder tank. Is there something I can do to fix, or do I need to replace? If the pump comes on and I'm not losing water where is the water going?

    Thanks;

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

    After the pump comes on, how long does it take to pump back up?

    What pump do you have a submersible or a jet pump?

    Push on the bladder tank at the top, just enough to rock it, is it heavy or light?

    Do you know the size of the bladder tank or model number?

    Bob;

    The pump takes about 10-15 sec, the tank is a Reliance 500 evercharged. The pump is submersible and the tank feels light. The tank itself is small, but I don't know the size.
    thanks

    Ok Steve,

    The reliance is a new one on me. Never heard of them.

    Sounds like it is ok but too small and you do have a leak.

    Try shutting off the main valve to the house (after the tank). If that stops the problem, it's in the house. If not it's down the well or in some other line before the tank and well.

    Check all the toilets. See if they are running over the vertical tube in the tank.

    Bob;

    Thanks for the info. The leak seems to be in the under ground line between the well and the house. I am now getting a pool of water around the casing. Looks like I need to start digging.

    Thanks again;

    Steve

    The leak may be the fitting into/on the pitless adapter or more likely the pipe is broken toward the house.

    Well at least this time of year, you won't have to worry about digging through frost.
