    Cycle Stop ?

greetings ... I have a 1.5hp Stay-Rite multistage pump on my Sprinker system ... I have 4 zones ... the system is 17 years old and originally I ran the 4 zones separate ... 2 years ago the impellar gave up and it was more cost effective to change out the pump ... The new pump wanted to cycle so I combined the 2 rotor zones and then the 2 spray zones ...everything was fine ... I did have a problem with the pump banging (sometimes severly) on startup ... I adjusted and adjusted it did get some better but never was completely resolved ...
About a month ago the motor burnt up in the pump .... Pump Shop wanted over 500 to replace the motor or 800.00 for for the whole setup ... I could get a new pump for 636.00 so i did that .. I was told move the pressure switch from the pump housing to the line comming off the tank and that corrected the banging (point bounce). But now with the Zones combined the pump seems to run out of water . After a couple minutes of a zone running the pressure drops and fluctuates and sounds like air is being sucked along with the water. If I seperate the zones I am back to the pump Cycling. That is what led me to this sight as I knew there was a device to prevent cycling. my question is will this work and is it my best solution ...

Couple of notes .. 1) 4" flowing well, seems 4-500 feet 2) we are in a severe drought in Florida and maybe my well cant produce the dual zones anymore ? 3) An estimate on zones would be 15-20 GPM ..so 2 combined zones would be 30-40 GPM ..

Thanks in Advance .. Mike in NE Florida ...

The Cycle Stop Valve will turn your pump into a variable flow pump. The output of the pump will match your sprinklers. Even though your pump is a 40 GPM pump, the CSV will turn it into a 20 GPM pump, if that is how many sprinklers you turn on. The CSV will let you match the sprinklers to the production of the well, and should solve your cycling problem.

Describe the pump you now have. Horsepower, brand name, type (centrifugal, jet, multistage centrifugal?

The prices in NE Florida are certainly higher than they are here in West Central Fl.

Duh, I thought you changed it to some other pump. That makes it simpler. So your back with what you always had. I would think if the well is still flowing, you should still have the same amount of water you did 17 years ago. You may have an air leak somewhere. I would try the Cycle Stop Valve. You can't go wrong that way.

I found a CS here Locally and installed it ...BIG changes ...It works ...and my pump seemed happier not to be working so hard ...but the big change is the pressure while the zones are running.... my largest Zone is running at 60lbs .. The others 70lbs or more! It has never run that much pressure and you can tell it at the sprinkler heads .... I am not sure what this is telling me .... The pressure switch is tapped of the inlet to the pressure tank ..The gauge is on the pump housing .... I know it can be running 80lbs but when it shuts down it Drops immediately to 60lbs ..

This is the order of things: Pump > CSV > Tank/Pressure switch > Sprinklers.

jumping in to this forum for help. I am trying to set a pressure switch on a 3/4 hp jet pump with pressure tank. The switch was factory set and I am trying to adjust so it works with my pressure/bladder tank. This is all for irrigation only. Anyway the pressure switch does not kick on when the pressure drops below 20 psi. If I manually reset the pump shuts off at 40 PSI.
There are 2 screws with springs for adjusting. I think I should only adjust the larger screw spring by tightening (clockwise) to set the "start" pressure. Am I right ??? Please help.

I think the center screw raises BOTH the cut off and cut on ...The other screw just raises the off pressure ....

    He's right Sean.

    Offthefront,

The reason your seeing the higher pressures at the pump is because the CSV is holding the pump back to maintain the constant pressure that the sprinklers, tank and pressure switch are seeing.
