I have never removed or installed a vertical jet pump. I have a Goulds# JO683 115/230 volt 1 HP pump that is completly rusted and sounds as if its gunna break down any day now. I want to replace it with a new but a family member of mine says there is a piping of some sort that is located under the pump that goes down the shaft about 12 feet(he may be coocoo)thats why I am asking here. If I remove the pump will anything fall off the bottom of my pump and cost me? Do I need some type of crane to raise it out? Can I just take them 2 bolts off located at the neck and pull old pump off and replace it with new or is there more to installing this type of pump? Any tips on removing/installing this pump will be appreciated..Thanks
