Hi guys new to this forum. I have a question about an old Valley pump, it's a 115v single phase pump that I have lying around and would like to use to flood our frozen lake to make a skating rink. It has three wires plus an earth, as far as I understand when the pump starts the red wire gets power until the pump is up to speed and then power is diverted to the black wire. The yellow wire is the common and ground is just that.

So my question is how can I simply wire the pump (without a controller) to pump water out of the lake to flood my plowed rink area? Will the pump work on only the power (black), common and earth wires or do I have to initially power up the red wire?

Many thanks for your input, Happy holidays to all.
