I have a cabin well (180') with a 2-wire 1/2 horse submersible pump. Power is supplied by a PV solar system, through a Trace 2412 inverter (2400 watts, 12 volts DC battery power converted to 120 V AC). That system has problems kicking my pump into action - sometimes it works, more often it needs to be switched on and off repeatedly before it works. As the batteries get discharged, the problem gets worse, until the pump just won't work. I'm assuming that my power system is undersized for the surge power needed by the pump. Is this a proper assumption? If so, then I am looking for a pump that has a lower surge power requirement. Do 3-wire pumps have reduced surge needs? Any suggestions as to what pump to buy to address this problem?
