    New house, with well

    Greetings
I just purchased a home with a well, a first for me! 2 Jet pumps, bladder tanks, aerator, & new water softener.
Purchased water softener from Gary at Quality Water associates.com
While installing the tanks & water softener I noted that the 2nd pump that sends water to the house will run even when the aerator is empty?
Is this a normal thing? Or should there be a switch there to prevent the pump from runing when the tank is empty?

    Thanks!
    Lee

If the tank is empty and the pump runs for very long it will melt plastic parts and fittings.

There is a pressure switch called the FSG-2 M4 which will shut the pump off when the pressure gets below a certain pressure. They are not 100% protection, but better than none. There are electronic devices that will notice the lowered amperage that will turn the pump off and these are closer to the 100%.

& the electronic devices are how much?
& should I really worry about it? I'm going to install separate switches for each pump, so when I'm cleaning the aerator or other maintenance I can run the pumps separatly, without running it dry.

    Thanks!

It's not when your doing maintenance, it's when the first pump goes out and the second one runs the tank dry. That's the concern. The electronic device is $128.94 plus shipping of a few bucks.
