I have a pump that is not operating correctly and checking into replacing and wanted to try and confirm if the original owners had installed the correct size pump to start with.

The installed pump is a Goulds J5S 1/2 HP, it has been used to draw water from a spring that is on a hill about 500ft or sow from the house on a hillside. It is currently used in conjunction with a WX-202 Pressure Tank.

is the 1/2 horse the correct size or what would be the effects if you used a 1hp pump?
