I have a shallow well near a lake; the lake level is dropped for two weeks a year so that folks can repair seawalls etc., and my well goes dry. I want to install a temporary surface pump drawing directly from the lake so that I can have washing and flushing water during these periods (until I can afford to have my well dug deeper!). I will switch off the existing well pump and install tees so that the auxiliary pump will feed into the house pressure tank etc. The pump will be about 10 feet above the lake level and the house is about 30-40 feet above the pump. I would appreciate any advice, particularly regarding pump sizing. Can I use rigid plastic pipe for the intake or does it have to be metal? Thanks, Julia.
