    Pressure building problem

I have a new system that consists of the followig:

1 1/4" brass foot valve to 1 1/4" poly pipe with 8' head and 325' horizontal run to a 1/2 hp shallow well jet pump into a bladder tank.

My problem is that I can't build greater than 32 or so psi, the pump will just run and run. The needle on the pressure gauge bounces a little

    I have done the following:

checked foot valve, all is good
bleed all air from intake line
pump never loses prime or built up pressure when off
took apart pump and made sure in flow and impeller were clean
checked air pressure in bladder, it's at 28lbs for 30/50
isolated the system by closing main valve right after the system

I have lowered the on off to 32/15 just so we can have water and the pump won't run continuously.

Could it be because of the long run of the supply line.

    Any help would be great.

You haven't told us what brand of pump this is or about it's horsepower. This might help.

The long run is especially critical since it's a suction line. As a pressure line going that far wouldn't be a problem if we were only talking 10 gallons per minute or less on the pressure side.

When you say 8 foot of head. Is that the water level in the well?

    Sorry

It is a 1/2 hp and I believe it is a flotec pump. One of the partners in the project purchased it.

I'm drawing from a deep water river in the Great LAkes (surface water). It is 8' from water level to top of pump.

He couldn't have purchased a pump much worse than the Flotec. Maybe China has them beat but not by much.

This may be all the Flotec can make with an 8' lift and the long draw.

Whether you choose to get a good Pump or stay with what you have, getting about 300 feet of that suction line between the Pump and Cabin would be a good idea.

So you think it is the distance not helped any by the quality of pump?

You think if I get a better pump and push the water from the source the 300' rather than pull it I won't have a problem acheiving the 50/30 pressure?

Yes that's what he means. You're lucky you're getting any pressure sucking water up 8' and then 300'. And then the quality/specs of the pump isn't very good.

The best choice would be a submersible pump in the river, then the 8' and 300' wouldn't be a problem but, that requires running 12/2 or 12/3 cable to the pump and keeping the pump off the bottom of the river and 'stuff' from blocking the inlet screen. Keeping it off the bottom and such isn't hard, hang it off a float or sink it so far off the bottom so boats etc. can't hit it.

I can sell you a 1/2hp Submersible Pump and install it into my Lake Strainer (which I charge $100.00 for)so that nothing can get into/onto the pump screen and plug it up. If you can get the wire down to the water, this would give you great pressure at the other end of the 1-1/4" pipe.

What will the pump and screen cost me?

Pump is $362.88, Lake Strainer is $59.56 and for me to install the Pump in the Lake Strainer it's another $100.00. I pay the freight since it's over $500.00.
