Personally I paid the piper on a Hitachi 42" plasma tv(looks like my model. 42PD7200 )on Tinker Air Force Base for 1599.00 back in 2006 with 1080i(not 1080p). It was still working when I gave it away to a friend because I thought I was upgrading when I bought a Philips 55" Smart 4K LED UltraHDTV(55pfl5602/f7)
Picture quality is down from my 1080i vs 2160P (please explain this one). My Dell XPS 8920 with nvidia geforce GTX1070 founders edition video card which is also 4k and VR ready or just step it down to 1440p to get your frame rates up.
The sound is down with those sound bars basically on the sides of the Hitachi TV. I have a surround sound system so not big thing now.
Remote sensor is the worse I have experienced since way back where I have to literally point it at the bottom left hand corner(that one took awhile).
It is thinner and way lighter than the plasma tv.
