2-wire and 3-wire Franklin motors over the years

2-wire in the early years was two solid black wires(no green ground wire)(Franklin flat submersible pump wire added a red stripe to one of the black wires and a solid black wire soon after. Later on they made solid red with the solid
black wire (added the green ground wire with a yellow stripe for the ground wire). Franklin motor still comes out the motor as two solid black wires with one green wire with a yellow stripe as the ground wire. After that depends on what type of wire was used to connect to the wires(submersible pump wire doesn't use white for a neutral wire).

3-wire in the early years had all three solid black wires(no ground wire)(Franklin flat submersible pump wire added a red stripe and a yellow stripe with a solid black wire(no green ground wire). Later on one solid red and one solid yellow wire with a solid black wire(added the solid green wire). Franklin motor is still the same today. After that depends on what type of wire was used to connect to the wires(submersible pump wire doesn't use white for a neutral wire). Comes with a control box (Control boxes contain starting capacitors, a starting relay, and, in some sizes, overload protectors, running capacitors, and contactors).

It can be a pain finding your colors in the early years. When you cut the wire(the ends of the wire coating will show it's true color again "hopefully" or you got to trace them out to find out what color each wire is(yay). You can do this by ohms or amps with or without a running capacitor(run cap).

Although motor amps decrease when auxiliary run capacitance is added, the load on the motor does not. If a motor is overloaded with normal capacitance, it will still be overloaded with auxiliary run capacitance, even though motor amps may be within nameplate values.
